What is a no-fault divorce?
A no-fault divorce is a divorce where neither party tries to assign blame, or “fault,” for the divorce on the other party. No-fault laws acknowledge that relationships are generally far too complex to put the blame on one person. Many divorces made under the no-fault category will list the reason for divorce as “irreconcilable differences” or “irretrievable breakdown.” No-fault divorce has become the standard in many states, though some still allow fault-based divorces.
