Do I really need a divorce lawyer? Can't I just do this myself?

The question is not can you do it yourself, it's should you. While there is no prohibition on conducting your own divorce without a lawyer in most states, because of the complexities of issues such as property division, taxes, and child custody, it is highly advisable to hire a competent lawyer to help you through the process and make sure your interests are protected.
